Third-Day Hair Never Looked This Good!

When you consider that I don’t even make it to third-day hair except on weekends, when I’m not going anywhere but the gym and don’t care how bad my hair looks, this is a big deal. Normally my roots would be pretty oily by the third day, and I would need to use my ACV/water scalp cleanser, but they look and feel fine despite not using them this time around 🙂 However, if I needed to, I certainly could use the scalp cleanser before this hair refreshing method I just tried out yesterday.

Normally, if I leave my hair alone, even by the second day, it’s lost most of its wave/curl. Over the past few months, I’ve experimented with different methods of refreshing the wave, which either makes my hair look very frizzy or leaves it feeling covered in product. Last night I made a small change to what I’ve been doing lately, which has really helped. I just used more water, and a comb.

(Any straight pieces around the bottom are just how my hair is naturally.)

1. Spray hair with water until saturated
2. Add All I Need Naturally Curl Refresher Cream to hair in sections, not raking fingers through the hair
3. Comb through hair, using fingers to detangle as necessary
4. Apply more water or curl refresher cream if necessary, distributing through hair with hands and comb
5. Scrunch hair to bring back waves/curls

Compared to my previous method, which did not include combing, my hair has markedly less frizz than usual. (There is some right now, but that’s probably because I took a quick shower after refreshing my hair last night, and laid on a cotton blanket for a bit, but I’ve starting sleeping with a satin pillowcase again.)

While the All I Need Naturally Curl Refresher Cream didn’t work for me the first few times I used it, it turns out I just needed to use it differently. While I prefer using a styling product with more hold right after washing my hair, this curl refresher cream is good for in between washes on wet hair, to add moisture and soft hold without making the hair feel crunchy or product-laden.

Although I need to wash my hair every 2-3 days, I’ll also need to see if this method makes my waves either last more than one day, or if I have to do it again the next day, if my hair will look and feel like it has too much product. I have not yet tried using a creamy leave-in conditioner mixed with a light gel, but I wonder if I could achieve a similar effect with that. I probably will try that sometime this week.

Finally Finished A Full-Sized Hair Product!

Wow, I haven’t written in this blog in almost a month.  I guess my hair routine and any experimenting with it has been quite uneventful.  I haven’t bought anything new lately, just trying out some stuff I’ve gotten over the past few months and trying to finish up older stuff.

Tonight, I finally finished my Garnier Curl Construct mousse.  I’ve had it since last September!  It takes me a long time to go through styling products because I use a few in rotation, and some of my bottles of styling product are pretty big!

I retrieved this from the recycle bin because I figured I should take a photo of it for my blog.  So important!

Now that I’ve taken pictures of the can, after I finish the product, I just realized that it contains amodimethicone.  At the time I bought it, I didn’t care, but I’ve not been purchasing any new products that contain silicones, unless they are water soluble.  At least it’s pretty low on the list…I guess.

Next, I will finally crack open my Herbal Essences Totally Twisted mousse*!  I got this last September as well, just a week or so after the Garnier mousse (after I opened it and couldn’t return it, of course), for free from Influenster.  Sadly, I never opened it since I only like to have one of each kind of styling product open at a time (i.e. one mousse, one gel, etc.)  I’m very sure I was supposed to review it on their website but never did.  Oh well, I should be able to review it on this blog after a while.

You’ll notice that the Herbal Essences mousse has a lot fewer ingredients than the Garnier mousse, and no silicones!  Can’t wait to use it 🙂

Bonus picture of what my hair looks like tonight, while wearing my new Ottoto Castellano glasses from glassesusa.com…and some glamorous old, oversized Kmart pajamas with cats on them:

Pre-Wash Treatment: All I Need Naturally Baobab Growth Oil Cocktail*, applied all over the hair except for the roots and the straight, thin bottom layer.  (My hair was so dry today, probably from the DevaCurl Delight low-poo and conditioner I used a few days ago.  Will air my grievances on that in a future blog post.)

Shampoo: Live Clean Coconut Milk Moisturizing Shampoo*
Conditioner: Live Clean Coconut Milk Moisturizing Conditioner*

Oil: All I Need Naturally Baobab Growth Oil Cocktail* along my hairline, concentrating on the edges
Moisturizer: All I Need Naturally Curl Refresher Cream* (Tried using this in place of a styling product, but it did not work for that purpose.  In fact, with this conditioner, I normally don’t even need a leave-in or any kind of post-wash moisturizer.)
Styler: Garnier Curl Construct Mousse

New Products: All I Need Naturally

Disclaimer: Being a member of naturallycurly.com’s Trendsetter Insights community, I received these products for free to review.  I received the Moisture Retention Leave in Conditioner with Baobab, Baobab Growth Oil Cocktail, and Baobab Creamy Curl Refresher.

I just joined this online community a month ago, so I was pleasantly surprised when about two weeks ago, I received an invitation email from Naturally Curly to test out these products and review them on their website.  The set includes a leave-in conditioner, oil, and curl refresher.  I do already use these types of products, so I gladly accepted.  I must say that I appreciate them listing the ingredients of each product to help members make a decision as to whether they would be interested.  These products from All I Need Naturally do have some quality ingredients.

They came with some tape over the tops of the bottles to keep the contents from leaking out.  Smart!

Front Sealed

I made sure to get some good shots of the front of the bottles, as well as the description and ingredients.  (My raggedy towel backdrop, though, is a different story.  I need a new backdrop.)

I see myself getting use out of every one of these products.  Although in my last entry, I wrote about how putting oil on my wet hair made it super stringy, I should not have this problem if I use a small amount.  After all, the bottle of the Baobab Growth Oil Cocktail says to use 2-3 drops.  I used a lot more than that last night!

While I will be posting a review on naturallycurly.com within a week, per the program conditions, I will likely wait at least a few weeks to put a review on this blog, just so I can more thoroughly test it.

Oh, and I got some samples too!  I got the Design Essentials Natural Almond & Avocado Moisturizing & Detangling Sulfate Free Shampoo (whew, what a name!), Jessicurl Hair Cleansing Cream, and Twisted Sista Intensive Leave-in Conditioner.

Can’t wait to use them 😀
